BONTOC, Mt. Province (394 kms. North of Manila)— One hundred copies of the book "Stories of Alapu" were turned over Tuesday to the Mountain Province Library Hub by members of the book project team headed by Dr. Ma. Luz D. Fang-asan.

The donation of the copies of the book was sponsored by the family of the late Board Member Salvador Bantali.

The book is a collection of eleven stories gathered from the elders of the province. It is part of a region-wide information campaign to encourage schoolchildren and their teachers to document folk stories.

According to Dalog, this storybook would give parents and their children an opportunity to read indigenous stories of their "Alapus" (ancestors) and learn from them. He also commended the project team for realizing the importance of gathering and publishing these local stories so that younger generations would know their very own folk stories.

To further disseminate the book, Dalog encouraged those present to sponsor copies for schools of their choice in the province.

The project team consists of volunteers struggling to meet the challenges of gathering, writing, visualizing, validating, and packaging information into a form that would generate interest among children of Cordillera. This first published edition is a joint project of Benguet State University (BSU), BIBAKNETS, and Overseas Cordillera Workers in Taiwan.

Aside from Dalog, BSU Vice President for Research and Extension Dr. Sonwright Madul, BSU Institute of Social Research and Development Director Dr. Marie Klondy Dagupen, MPGCHS Principal Evelyn Joyce N. Taguiba and some government employees were present during the turnover of the books. Nordis/posted by Bulatlat
