These protesters no doubt expected to proceed smoothly to Mendiola Bridge which leads to the presidential palace. It was, after all, International Human Rights Day and freedom of expression is a basic right. The crowd however was violently dispersed by police along C.M. Recto Ave.—a street named after a prominent civil libertarian and nationalist statesman. The water from the fire truck spared no one—not even Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo who was on the frontline.
