BM Ilocos Reports P7.5 M Worth of Projects;
Hits Military for False Charges

“The projects of Bayan Muna in Ilocos in northern Philippines were implemented through DPWH and the Local Government Units (LGUs) in these areas. Anybody is free to scrutinize our records if there are indeed misused funds or unnecessary allocations that may have been channeled to the CPP-NPA as claimed by the military and National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales. They can even ask the LGU (Local Government Unit) officials who coordinated with us during the construction of these projects,” challenged Sherwin de Vera, Bayan  Muna coordinator for Ilocos.

Sherwin de Vera, coordinator of Bayan Muna (People First) said that P7.5 million worth of farm-to-market roads, school building repairs, post-harvest facilities and potable water system was allotted in the region through Bayan Muna. There projects were implemented in Salcedo, Galimuyod, Sta. Lucia and Bantay in Ilocos Sur and Aringay in La Union.

De Vera belied the claims made by Lt. Dominador Vallerio, Press Relations Officer of the 50th IB, during an interview by DZTP radio, that four progressive parties namely —Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela,, and Anak ng Bayan - are CPP-NPA fronts.

“Such statements are baseless and recycled black propaganda being spread by the AFP and the government. Even Gonzales was criticized by fellow officials for accusing Bayan Muna as a CPP-NPA front without proof,” De Vera asserted.

“This is a deliberate attempt to suppress the growing popularity of progressive parties, especially since Bayan Muna has consistently topped the national surveys. The administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are afraid that more militant members will be elected to Congress for it would surely derail their corrupt and anti-people activities,” de Vera concluded.
