PHOTO OF THE WEEK: SEXIST
AD IN WORLD HERITAGE SITE
Destileria Limtuaco’s Napoleon Quince ad, which asks the suggestive “Nakatikim ka na ba ng kinse años?” (literally, Have you tasted a 15-year-old?) was ordered pulled out by the Advertising Board of the Philippines (Adboard) late last April after a series of protests by women’s groups, who argued that the commercial had sexist undertones. But Destileria has obviously found ways of going around the ruling, as shown in this photo from the calesa (horse-drawn carriage) parade around the Unesco World Heritage Site in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, northern Philippines during the Binatbatan Festival last May 16. Brushing aside all pretensions to not being sexist, the liquor company adorned this calesa with a poster asking the “magic question” – and teenage girls wearing midriff-baring outfits.
