PHOTO OF THE WEEK: DASSAL
Sixty-three-year-old Rosita Daluping chose to commemorate Indigenous Peoples’ Week earlier this month by performing a Kalinga ritual, called dassal, for her slain grandson, Franklin Gac-oy. Franklin’s severely-mutilated body was found June 23 along Marcos Highway in Tuba, Benguet. In this ritual, Daluping waves two pieces of white cloth as she chants and curses the police who are accused of doing nothing to solve the killing. Rosita Daluping’s dassal may well be an indictment of government neglect of indigenous peoples’ plight. Photo by Ace Alegre/BULATLAT.COM We want to know what you think of this photo. |
