SWEEPING PART OF THE
BATTLEGROUND
Farmer is sweeping up part of a creek that is just a few steps away from
the picket line set up by workers of the Cojuangco-owned Hacienda Luisita
in Tarlac (120 kms. north of Manila). This is the same creek where two
bodies were found after the Nov. 16 dispersal of striking workers
demanding land distribution, a wage increase and more mandays. He is
cleaning up his part in a small space that the workers have found for
themselves, for the meantime, outside the spacious sugar land where the
strikers and their families have had to make do with little space for
life.
