PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Entourage in a Jeepney

Yes, you had it right: this is a wedding entourage. The fellows were caught by Bulatlat’s camera while heading for a wedding in Aringay, La Union (244 kms. north of Manila). Atop the jeepney are the male secondary sponsors, clad in barong Tagalog with pink ties – a most unusual color combination – most probably to blend with the pink and white ribbons adorning the jeepney. The camera-shy bride is seated beside the driver.

The entire entourage occupied a single jeepney, rather than forming a convoy led by the usually rented white sedan carrying the bride. These are village people who think it more practical to save for the rainy days instead of borrowing money to be lavished on the extravagant weddings that are commonly seen on television – a picture of the Filipinos’ famous capacity for resourcefulness.
