PHOTO ESSAY

Suffer Thy Children

PHOTOS COURTESY OF KARAPATAN-SURIGAO DEL SUR

These photos are almost too painful to look at. Each one illustrates how innocent children become victims in government operations that target their elders and, sometimes, even those barely older that they.

Some of them were used as guides in the operations. Some were interrogated – and tortured when they could not give the answers that the soldiers wanted to hear. All of them lost the quiet lives they lived before the 11 trucks of soldiers came.

These pictures were taken at the evacuation center in Diatagon, Surigao Del Sur.
