“We denounce in the strongest sense, the Congress for collaborating and ensuring
the death of the impeachment complaint against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
and the prolongation of its illegitimate administration,” said Maita Santiago,
Migrante International Secretary-General.
“This injustice stokes the people’s frustration and anger -- especially now that
they’ve seen the corruption, collaboration and direct intervention of Macapagal-Arroyo
and the majority congressmen to kill the impeachment complaint. Gloria and her
lackeys leave the people no choice but to take to the streets and demonstrate
their strength through People Power,” she added.
Already, Migrante organizations in Canada, Hong Kong, the Middle East, Europe
and in the United States have conducted parallel mobilizations and are gearing
for more demonstrations to pronounce their utmost disgust to the derailment of
the impeachment proceedings at the steps of the Philippine Consulate in their
respective cities.
International allies and foreign organizations who support in solidarity the
Filipino people’s call for the immediate removal of Arroyo have also called on
their respective governments to immediately withdraw support to Arroyo’s
administration.
”Arroyo has shown desperate attempts to cling to her ill-gotten presidency
despite the people’s clamor for her ouster. She has cheated a nation, broken her
promises to the Filipino people and has plunged the country into unbearable
crisis.” Santiago said.
”Similar to the fate of the Marcos and Estrada regimes, the Parliament of the
Streets will decide the fate of the nation. But this time, a democratic
transitional council will arise and implement urgent reforms and pave the way
for legitimate elections wherein the people themselves can democratically choose
their leaders,” she explained.
“The consequences of Macapagal Arroyo’s ‘pyrrhic victory’ in hiding the truth
and avoiding justice through legislative means will now unfold before her own
eyes as the people’s power strengthens to oust her government. People will march
in the streets across the country and around the world to exert all-out effort
to oust Arroyo’s illegitimate, fascist and puppet regime!” Santiago concluded.
