SERENITY AT RISK

An Aeta mother and her children head for home in a village in Porac, Pampanga (92 kms. north of Manila). They are among the victims of the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo who had to evacuate but were eventually able to return to their homeland. But the serenity they enjoy in this village is at risk of being disrupted by large-scale mining operations, in the wake of the return of the corporation Dizon Mines as Pisumpan Copper Mining Corp.  President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in a recent mining investors conference, declared the Philippines as “open for business.”
