SALUNGGUHIT

By Flon Faurillo / Bulatlat

Neglect of the Future

What is called human capital is important in the progress of any nation, and in the development of this essential resource, education plays an indispensable part. This was what President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo conveniently ignored when she promised businessmen that she would take the Philippines to the “Enchanted Kingdom” of First World success in 20 years. It is a wonder what kind of education Filipino children – the country’s future – as they are forced to take their lessons in school buildings that should have been condemned long ago.

Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
