PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Uphill Walk

It is a long and difficult walk everyday for students of the Camp 7 Elementary School in Baguio City, as they have to traverse a hanging bridge for an hour or so just to get to class. This is a common sight throughout the school year in most mountain barangays in the Cordillera region, where schools can be reached only by foot. In more ways than one, however, the plight of Camp 7 Elementary School students mirrors the experience of students nationwide. The commercialization of education in the Philippines has made the quest to attain a diploma a long uphill climb.
