Monkey Justice
Despite the lifting of
Proclamation No. 1017, which placed the country under a state of national
emergency, the assault on civil liberties that it unleashed continues. The
country remains very much in a situation that is reminiscent of the
martial law years and getting worse and worse by the day. What we see now
is the crumbling of whatever semblance of a justice system that the
country previously enjoyed. This is now being replaced by a farcical
administration of “justice” blatantly beneficial only to the ruling
political clique – in Philippine colloquial terms a farce is called
unggoy-unggoyan.
Salungguhit literally means to
underline; figuratively, to
underscore or highlight.
