Progressive groups mount a women-led action in time for the International Women’s Day celebration in Manila, Philippines. Women rights defenders and members of sectoral groups asserted their socio-economic rights in the midst the the worsening economic crisis. They also condemned the continuing attacks against women rights activists.

The circumstances of Buiza’s arrest echoes the simultaneous police and military operations conducted last March 7, 2021, which resulted in nine deaths and six arrests across the Southern Tagalog region, dubbed ‘Bloody Sunday’. Six of the victims and three of the arrests happened in Rizal province.
