Cordillera activist Marcus “Macoy” Bangit was shot dead around 6:40 p.m. on June 8, at a stopover restaurant along the national highway in Echague, Isabela.

He was on his way back to Baguio onboard a GL bus from Tabuk, Kalinga when bonnet-masked men riding a van shot him. Bangit sustained four gunshot wounds in the chest and stomach.

Bangit, a young Kalinga elder of the Malbong tribe, was a regional officer of the Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) and chairperson of the Binodngan Pongors Organization (BPO). Bulatlat
