Posted 8:30 p.m., May 27, 2006

Noli Capulong, secretary general of the party-list group Bayan Muna, was killed near St. John Hospital in Barangay Parian, Calamba town in the province of Laguna (52 km south of Manila) today at around 6 in the evening.

Dorris Cuario, secretary general of the human rights group Karapatan in Southern Tagalog said two motorcycle-riding men wearing ski-masks shot and killed Capulong on the spot. The latest victim of extra judicial killing sustained four gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Capulong’s murder brings to 94 the number of Bayan Muna members killed since 2001.

He was also a regional staff member of the multi-sectoral group Bagong Alyangsang Makabayan (Bayan or New Patriotic Alliance) and served as spokesperson for the Southern Tagalog Environmental Action Movement (STEAM).

Cuario said their group will hold an indignation rally in front of Gate 2 of the Department of National Defense (DND) along EDSA at 10 am tomorrow, May 28. Bulatlat
