SALUNGGUHIT

By Flon Faurillo / Bulatlat

Waiting to Strike

Beleaguered and bruised even, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo – who is battling countless challenges to her administration arising from questions on the legitimacy of her presidency and people’s discontent over what is seen as all-around government misrule – is looking to the men and women in uniform for refuge. But even in them, she cannot find assurance. Signs show that even in the institution considered as the government’s last bulwark for defense, the waves of dissension have set in. Soldiers may profess loyalty whenever held in check but it does not mean they are not waiting for the “right time” to strike.

Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
