SALUNGGUHIT
Open Targets
By Jasper
Almirante/
Bulatlat
Members of media
recently got hold of a PowerPoint presentation of the Intelligence Service
of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), titled Knowing the
Enemy, in which several legal organizations – including Church and
professional groups – are listed as “communist front organizations” and
“enemies of the state.” The PowerPoint presentation is reportedly being
used as briefing material for the military. With this, legal mass
organizations have become open targets for the state’s armed might. The
presentation’s message is actually a done deal: 29 activists and leaders
have been killed since January this year; five others were abducted and
remain missing.
Salungguhit literally means to
underline; figuratively, to
underscore or highlight.
