BAGUIO CITY – A
criminal case of obstruction of justice was recently filed by professional
nurses in this city against Philippine Nursing Association President Dr.
Cordero for his alleged efforts to cover up the investigation on the June
11 -1 2 nursing board leakage.
Cordero allegedly
urged complainants of the leakage to go slow about it and even dangled
positions for some leaders of the complainants.
The case was filed on
July 25 at the City prosecutor’s office by Dr. Mary Grace Lacanaria and
Dr. Ludivina Ramos, with lawyer Cheryll Daytec-Yangot, who also assisted
the complainants in the case they filed with the Professional Regulation
Commission (PRC).
Lacanaria is the dean
of the college of nursing of SLU and regional president of the
Associations of Deans of the Philippine Nursing Colleges (ADPCN) while
Ramos is a local PNA member and SLU faculty member.
Nordis learned that
Cordero called Lacanaria, Dean Ruth Thelma Tingda, and local officers of
the PNA to go slow after they filed the complaint to the PRC.
In these
conversations, Cordero allegedly offered positions in his nursing school
in exchange of their silence on the leakage issue.
Cordero allegedly
traveled with two members of the Board of Nursing to Switzerland prior to
the exam. He reportedly met with 22 deans in Metro Manila and shared some
of the leakage with them, a reliable source told Northern Dispatch.
Cordero met with the
PNA Cordillera and Baguio City chapters on July 29 in this city but walked
out of the meeting when a newly-passed nurse expressed disappointment with
the PNA national leadership because they were involved in the scam.
Cordero reportedly
has a son named Clarence Nathan who also took the exam. His name however
was neither in the lists of passers and flunkers, a reliable source shared
to Northern Dispatch. Northern Dispatch tried to reach PRC to verify the
status of the exam of the younger Cordero but to no avail. Northern
