MASSKARA PERFORMER UNMASKS

Negros lass takes off her colorful mask to photographer during last week’s annual revelry in Bacolod City - the Masskara Festival. Peasant groups have criticized the festival saying it’s a shame such pageantry is celebrated to mask the real score in Negros, central Philippines: an island in the grip of a social volcano rumbling out of widespread poverty and revolution.
