PAGADIAN CITY – Unidentified gunmen killed two unarmed persons suspected to be communist guerillas on Sunday last week in a hinterland village in Dumingag town, Zamboanga del Sur, a province in southern Philippines.

Police identified one of the victims as Junny Gumipay, 24, married and resident of Barangay (village) Saad in Dumingag. The other victim was only known as “Ka Delfin.”

Police Inspector Mansueto Martinez, Duminga police chief, said the two were riding a motorcycle from the nearby village Dilod when they were stopped by 10 armed men upon reaching the village of Dulop at about 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 4.

After divesting the victims of their backpacks and other personal belongings, the assailants shot them with M-16 rifles and a 12-gauge shotgun. Empty shells were recovered from the crime scene.

The driver was left unharmed. He immediately reported to the nearest detachment of the 10th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, about a kilometer away from the place of incident.

The victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds, mostly in the back. Bulatlat.com
