PHOTO OF THE WEEK: TEARS
FOR ANGELO As
the whole nation prayed for the life of Angelo de la Cruz (which literally means
“angel of the cross”), the 46-year-old truck driver being held hostage in
Iraq, droves of devotees lined up inside the Parish Cathedral along Session Road
in Baguio City, some 250 kms north of Manila on July 17. The devotees, like this
girl in sweater, used their handkerchiefs to receive a blessing from St.
Therese. The saint’s statue “shed tears of blood,” miracle-hungry
parishioners said. The “blood,” said the curious, could be a sign for the
people to continue praying as they agonized over the migrant worker’s fate –
he was threatened with beheading by his captors. Born in Alencon, France in 1873, St. Therese Martin died young in 1897. Known as the “Little Flower of Jesus,” she was canonized as a saint in 1925. Photo by Ace Alegre/BULATLAT.COM We want to know what you think of this photo. |
