FROM A 'SAFE' DISTANCE 

This street cleaner could obviously not bring himself anywhere near the urinal, one of the many set up by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and settles for hosing it from a “safe” distance. MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando says the urinals are among his office’s important contributions for the National Capital Region’s sanitation, supposedly because they would disenchant males from urinating on the walls or behind posts. The many pink urinals that now dot Metro Manila’s streets have however become famous for stinking beyond the high heavens. These have no flush mechanisms, which makes them no less unsanitary than the once favorite walls and posts.
