New Moro Party-list Group Junks GMA

Literally meaning “voice of the Moro people,” a new regional party-list group called Suara Bangsa Moro seeks to carry the voice of the marginalized and war-torn peoples of Mindanao into the halls of Congress through the coming party-list elections. As its first salvo, it scored the all-out war launched by the Macapagal-Arroyo government, promising an “all-out NO support” for GMA in the May polls.

Suara Bangsamoro held its founding congress last Feb. 5 in Cotabato City, attended by more than a thousand delegates including Muslim leaders and academicians. Its members represent the 13 ethno-linguistic groups of Mindanao. It also has 16 provincial chapters spread throughout the Mindanao regions.

Suara’s 12 nominees are led by former leaders of the militant Moro-Christian Peoples Alliance (MCPA). They are MCPA’s secretary general Amirah Ali Lidasan and its chairperson, Wahab Guialal.

Call for justice

"The united voice of the Bangsamoro people calls out for justice for the thousands of Moro lives sacrificed in the inhumane all-out-wars launched by the Arroyo regime, uncaring for the slaughter of innocent lives, apathetic to the genuine calls of the Moro people," Lidasan asserted.

The leader bitterly recounted the AFP-led Pikit war on Feb. 11 last year which displaced 400, 000 Muslims and Christians alike and led to the “senseless” death of the innocent, including women and children.

The party declared an "all-out no support" for President Arroyo and promised that only “no” votes for the president will be coming from their forces. Bulatlat.com
