BAGUIO CITY – Ethnic groups here are demanding justice for the brutal slaying of two Kalinga students last June.

In a rally last August 22, the Kalinga Professionals Association (KPA) and the Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) marched from the Baguio City Justice Hall to the Central Business District to condemn the killing of Franklin Gac-oy and Martin Bulakit.

The bodies of Gac-oy, a 20-year-old BS Dentistry sophomore from Pines City Colleges, and Bulakit, a second year BS Criminology student from Baguio Colleges Foundation, were found in Tuba, Benguet in northern Philippines. The victims’ heads, feet and external genitalia were cut off.

Authorities and the mainstream media attributed the killings to “tribal wars” in Kalinga.

The victims’ families, friends and concerned groups and individuals that the two were summarily executed. Gac-oy and Bulakit, they said, could not have died from a tribal war because the killings were extremely brutal.

The KPA demanded swift justice for the victims and called on authorities to stop the brutal killings.

The victims’ families also called on the media to tell the truth about the deaths of Gac-oy and Bulakit. Media reports were based mainly on the statements of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) that the killing stemmed from a tribal war. Northern Dispatch / Posted by Bulatlat
