PHOTO OF THE WEEK

MASKED

The boy at left looks amused at the covered faces of the street sweepers employed under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s “Kalsada Mo, Alagaan Ko” (your road, my job) project. They were photographed in Baguio City, a resort city in northern Philippines, amid public concern over the reported outbreak of the killer disease meningococcemia in this city middle of this month. Despite the reports, local health officials have declared the city safe. The boy must have heard of this but is probably wondering why the street sweepers’ faces remain covered. Their improvised masks actually serve as their protection from the dust. Street sweepers were used by Arroyo for her presidential campaign last May.
