Still Waters off ‘Terror’ Island

Basilan, one of the islands at the southernmost tip of the Philippines, has come to symbolize terrorism for most people. No thanks to the military and media offensives launched by the succession of presidents anxious to receive military and “development” assistance from the United States. These children, playing and swimming at Basilan’s seashore, are unmindful of the turmoil that plagues their home island.
