OF THE WEEK

Noisiest
A sago-gulaman (gelatine) vendor and his friends
bang their hands on his cart during a noise barrage portion of the rally
program at Welcome Rotunda, the boundary between Quezon City and Manila,
during the Sept. 12 nationwide transport strike that called for the
scrapping of the oil deregulation law and the repeal of the expanded
value-added tax (EVAT) law, which covers fuel. The man was one of several
ambulant vendors who had flocked to Welcome Rotunda that day. The
protesters did several noise barrages during the rally, and in each of
these the vendors – distinguished by their omnipresence at any street
protest - were easily the noisiest.
