PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Grappling Against Time

The woman in blue, Gemma Silverio, 35, is a Physical Education teacher from the Jose Fabella High School in Mandaluyong City. Inactive in athletic competition after leaving the Philippine women’s wrestling team in 1997, she returned to active training only after the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games two years ago. Few expected her to make it good, since she just made her SEA Games debut this year – at an age when most athletes are expected to take it easy. She appears to have been subdued by her opponent in this Nov. 30 photo. Well, she was one of the first to bring the Philippines a gold medal in the 23rd SEA Games.
