Half the Sky, Double the
Mao Zedong once said that women hold up
half the sky. In the Philippines, they bear twice the burden of
oppression: They suffer from gender inequality and are further weighed
down by all other problems that basically come with a neocolonial and
backward-agricultural society. So in the Philippines, the women’s struggle
is inseparable from the people’s quest for a sovereign and just society.
Salungguhit literally means to
underline; figuratively, to
underscore or highlight.
