PHOTO OF THE WEEK

WALKING STORE

These two teenaged vendors in La Trinidad, Benguet, some 250 kms north of Manila, don’t seem to mind the weight of their wares, even as they are to carry these all the way to Baguio City four kilometers away where they would be making the rounds of the households in search of prospective buyers. The baskets, made of rattan and bamboo ribs, don’t look heavy when looked at one by one, but try carrying all these all at once. This attitude of theirs reflects the Filipinos’ well-known ability to keep smiling even in the face of seemingly insurmountable problems. It is probably this disposition of the Filipinos that enable them to keep going as they strive to weather the hardest of times.
