Mountain Market

The town of Sagada, Mt. Province (275 kms north of Manila) is one place where people still do market-vending the old way: outdoors, using mats instead of stalls. Vegetables are expectedly the most common wares in the Sagada public market, the Cordillera region being vegetable country. With one look one can tell the freshness of the vegetables. Some of the vendors are still starting to set up, with their wares still in large plastic bags.

In Sagada they still do many things the old way; the town itself remains a favorite refuge for tourists looking for a respite from the fast-paced life in Manila and other urban centers. Ironically, Sagada risks losing its rustic appeal to the prospects of urbanization arising from the influx of tourists.
