Workers’ Burden

Workers cannot bring themselves to be in a festive mood this May 1, which is their day, and will have nothing to really celebrate for as long as President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo remains in power. Right now she is the biggest burden to workers – as she has been imposing and implementing policies making life more miserable by the day for those who turn the wheels of the economy. At the same time, she has rejected labor groups’ long-standing demand for a legislated P125 wage increase, and now even workers’ right to celebrate Labor Day appears to be in peril with all the repressive measures being unleashed by the Macapagal-Arroyo administration.

Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
