PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Quiet and Disquiet

A duck wades quietly through the Reflecting Pool that divides the Washington Monument (seen in the backdrop) and the Lincoln Memorial, from which this 4 p.m. shot was taken recently. The pool is the centerpiece of this part of the "Mall" – the U.S. capital center cum tourist attraction which is also made famous for being the gravitational center of many anti-war protests in the heart of Washington, DC. The tranquility that it projects provides an eerie background to the fact that the "Mall" is also the seat of the world's superpower from where wars of intervention are constantly plotted to bring disquiet to the whole world.
