Deal?

Here’s the deal: Lance Cpl. Daniel Smith and three other U.S. Marines accused in the Subic rape case go free, and former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante gets protected from deportation from the U.S. to the Philippines. That way, Joc-joc is kept from having to face a Senate inquiry on the fertilizer scam, in which some P728 million in fertilizer funds were allegedly used for President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s 2004 electoral bid. Nicole’s mother told of having been informed of a proposed settlement on her daughter’s case by no less than Senior State Prosecutor Emilie de los Santos, otherwise there would be a tradeoff with Joc-joc’s case. De los Santos has denied the allegations of Nicole’s mother, and vehemently so, but recent developments make the question of whether or not there are moves to make a tradeoff worth asking.

Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
