SALUNGGUHIT

By Flon Faurillo / Bulatlat

Robbery?

Was the Oct. 3 killing of Bp. Alberto Ramento (Iglesia Filipina Independiente) a mere case of robbery with homicide? This is what the Philippine National Police (PNP) would have the public believe. Investigators based their conclusion on the fact that a cellular phone and “an undetermined amount of money” were stolen from the bishop, who was slain in his convent. But the dilapidated convent in which he lived – a convent that could not even get its door fixed – and the very bare room in which his body was found, speak more than a mouthful of whether or not the act was worth it for anyone who had only robbery in mind. What is certain is this: that freedom-loving Filipinos were robbed of a prophetic voice of a man of the cloth who followed Christ by serving the people.

Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
