OF THE WEEK

Of Legend and History
Seated on a raft, a
fisherman gathers giant water lilies from legendary and historic Paoay
Lake in Ilocos Norte, a mysterious lake with depth still unknown. Based on
legend, there used to be five villages where the lake is. The residents of
these villages envied each other so much that they angered God. As a
punishment, God sank the villages into a body of water that is now known
as Paoay Lake. The lake was a favorite water-skiing area of the late
strongman Ferdinand Marcos, and is overlooked by his Malacañang ti Amianan
(Malacañang of the North).
