Dancing against Trafficking
Dec. 4 was marked in
highland Baguio City (246 kms north of Manila) with a parade that was part
of a roadshow campaign rally promoting the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act
of 2003. In the parade, a group of Igorots opted to send their message of
support to the drive against human trafficking by donning their native
costume and dancing to the tune of indigenous tribal music with gongs. The
objective was to show the ways of the Cordillera people – which include
closely-knit relations in the communities – as potent weapons against
trafficking in persons.
