Topping the bar is
“doable” even for reviewees from outside Metro Manila as proven by Noel
Neil Q. Malimban, the 2006 bar topnotcher, who hails from the University
of the Cordilleras (UC) in Baguio.
In the presence of
journalists, he shared his secrets of how he topped the bar: “good grasp
(of the subjects), good English, good penmanship, and prayer.”
He pointed out that
his answers were direct to the point, as he preferred not to include or
quote the direct provisions of the law. Malimban garnered a rating of
87.60 percent, thus leading 45 successful examinees from UC.
A certified public
accountant (CPA), he decided to quit his Makati City job and entered the
UC Law School, as he recognized the UC bar topnotcher before him.
“Atty. Janet Abuel
serves as an inspiration for me and I realized that topping, though not my
intention, is doable,” said Malimban, the second UC alumnus to top the bar
examinations.
Abuel topped the bar
in 1998 and is now the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) director
for Region I.
Most bar topnotchers
reviewed in established and expensive review centers in Metro Manila. It
is an added burden for reviewees, particularly from outside Metro Manila.
But Malimban, who depends on his CPA sideline, decided to review with an
institution linked with UC.
“God gave me strength
to pass the exam and courage to patiently wait for the results,” said the
devout Malimban, who is a resident of Slaughter House in Barangay
(village) Sto.Niño, Baguio City.
He also said that he
will grant the request of the UC College of Law dean to teach in the
institution. Northern Dispatch / Posted by Bulatlat
