Graver Crimes

The Arroyo administration is patting itself on the back with the recent conviction of former President Joseph Estrada, who was ousted in 2001 through a popular uprising, for plunder. But President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has no reason to congratulate herself. While the verdict of Estrada is a rendering of justice, the Arroyo administration must not rejoice too much unless it wants to call attention to its own crimes against the people. If there is anyone who deserves a greater punishment than what is due Estrada, it is none other than Arroyo – who, aside from facing plunder issues of her own, is also accountable for electoral fraud and human rights violations.
