Save Marilou Ranario

In return, Allan and Pilar are among those who are active in Migrante International’s Save Marilou Ranario campaign.

They are always seen with members of Migrante and the Kenneth Causon (KC) Movement, a local group at Brgy. Holy Spirit which is also supporting the campaign, gathering signatures and lobbying officials to save their beloved Marilou.

At Brgy. Holy Spirit, black and white Members of Migrante International post black and white posters and conduct signature campaign in Quezon City to gather support for Marilou Ranario, an OFW sentenced to death in Kuwait. By Aubrey Makilanposters calling for support to save Marilou from being hanged in Kuwait are competing for space with the colorful and larger posters of candidates for the barangay elections.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, there are 35 OFWs on death row, mostly in the Middle East, including four women.

Migrante International secretary general Maita Santiago said that the struggle to save their lives will involve a broad range of actions at the local, national and international level. “We also seek to expose and make accountable the Arroyo administration over its criminal neglect of their plight,” she said.

Marilou languishes on death row after a Kuwaiti Court sentenced her to death by hanging in September 2005 for killing her female employer. An appeals court upheld this decision in February 2007. Marilou’s case is under final appeal with Kuwait’s highest court, the Court of Cassation. Oral arguments are set from October to December this year with the final decision expected by January or February 2008. (Bulatlat.com)
