The Arroyo government is frantically trying to justify its controversial grant of pardon to murder convict Claudio Teehankee Jr., with Justice Sec. Raul Gonzalez even going to the extent of calling the parents of murder victim Maureen Hultman as “hypocrites” for protesting the grant of executive clemency to and release of Teehankee. Well, the grant of executive clemency to Teehankee by Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is not surprising. Didn’t she praise and promote Maj Gen. Jovito Palparan – who was called the “butcher” by people’s and human rights organizations for leaving a trail of dead political activists wherever he was assigned- during the height of extrajudicial killings in the country? What is it with this government that it favors killers?
