A lesson from Pinocchio

Former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “JocJoc” Bolante is adamantly sticking to his claim that no anomaly surrounds the distribution of the P728 million-fertilizer fund in 2004. But all pieces of evidence such as the list he himself provided the Senate, and the former regional directors who were under him during that time contradict his statements. Not even the allies of Pres. Arroyo could stomach his lies. He is perhaps the first to be detained by the Senate for lying.

In the same boat as him is his benefactor, Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who has been assuring everybody that she has got nothing to do with the current moves at the Lower House to push for charter change through a constituent assembly even if her son is involved. Malacanang is also taking pains to assure the public that Pres. Arroyo would step down when her term expires in 2010. But nobody seems to believe her.

Both of them should learn from Pinocchio that the truth could never be concealed.
