Gabriela Women’s Party Rep.Luz Ilagan early today (Tuesday) paid a visit to one of the Morong detainees, Judilyn Oliveros at the Philippine General Hospital where Oliveros is currently recovering and still under observation for possible complications out of her delivery.
The lady solon checked on Oliveros’ condition while she also heard the young mother’s ordeal because of the threat of being separated from her baby boy as per instruction of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
Congresswoman Ilagan, a staunch advocate of women’s rights has pledged to support Oliveros and all of the women detainees included in the Morong 43.
Cong. Ilagan pledged to deliver a privilege speech at the House of Representatives to call for the release of Oliveros as well as the protection of the rights of the mother to take care of her child. She reiterated her call for the release of the rest of the Morong 43. She will also help articulate issues of women in detention.
Meanwhile, as a gesture of support, a group of clergy from the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) also visited Oliveros and her baby. Bishops Ronnel Fabriguer of Romblon and Mindoro and Rowel Arevalo of Marinduque, Quezon, Batangas and Camarines led the group. Earlier, the group had a dialogue with Secretary Leila de Lima regarding human rights issues and the Morong 43.
The IFI, now celebrating its 108th year, included Oliveros and her baby’s welfare in their prayers.
