Mt. Province opposes large-scale mining

BONTOC, Mt. Province – The provincial government here issued a resolution reflecting the people’s opposition large-scale mining exploration and operations within Mt. Province.

In its resolution, the local government informs the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) –Cordillera and all mining companies that are proposing to conduct mining exploration in the area that large scale mining exploration and operations are not allowed in the province.

Earlier, the provincial government adopted a resolution opposing any grant of permit to large-scale mining exploration and operation within the territorial jurisdiction of Mt. Province.

In a letter dated May 25, 2011, Noel V. Ferrer, the president of the Malibato Mining Company Inc. furnished the provincial government a copy of the proposed exploration and environmental work programs of the company in support of its application for exploration permit filed with the MGB- CAR.

“The officialdom of this province strongly reiterates the appeal of its constituents through the enactment of another resolution (Resolution No. 2011-147) to inform the DENR, MGB – CAR and all mining companies that have applied for mining exploration permits covering the territorial jurisdiction of Mt. Province.

“That the officialdom and the people of this province vehemently oppose the grant of permit for large-scale mining exploration and operation in the province”, the resolution stated. (https://www.bulatlat.com)
