Two hands

What drives this elderly woman to so desperately beg for help by the roadside weeks after supertyphoon Yolanda (Haiyan) betrays the government's criminal failure to help survivors. (Barotac Viejo, Iloilo)

  1. That picture must have been taken 3 weeks after Yolanpda. Today, the greens are back and, as shown by my repeated trips to Estancia town, this scene of desperation is gone.

The trees are green again and no longer looking like skeletons as the picture here shows.

Desperation is still in the air that a journalist worth his/her salt can sense by exercising greater creativity in data gathering and documentation using the cam.

Yolanda engendered more than 300,000 internal refugees Iloilo , who lost houses, family members, fishing boats, crops, livestock, and children who can’t go to school because their classrooms are gone.

And don’t forget the refugees from the oil spill in Estancia who, on top do losing their boats and homes, find themselves unable to catch fish fish or gather shells and edible sea grass in their shoals due to bunker fuel contamination.

    Bwisit nga Franklin Drilon.
