NEW YORK – From the belly of the beast, resistance to the U.S.-initiated Pax Silica is rising. 

The U.S.-wide launch of the Shut Down Pax Silica Campaign Network happened on Sunday, September 20 with over 500 people attending in New York City, online, and in watch parties all over the country. Convened by the International League of Peoples’ Struggle-US (ILPS-US), Bagong Alyansang Makabayan USA (BAYAN USA), and International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines-US (ICHRP-US), the network consists of 45 organizations who opposed the Pax Silica over impacts on environmental destruction and exploitation of the poor in other countries.

Speakers from Agham, Friends of the Congo, Countermapping Network PH, and Nodutdol shared about the impacts of AI and tech supply chains around the world, and the global threat of Pax Silica, with the Philippines as “ground zero” for the Initiative.

This event marked the beginning of the week of action at the UN General Assembly with the banner “No to War and Plunder, Fight for Peoples’ Rights, National Sovereignty, and Genuine Development.” (RVO)
