Cleaning Up

Petron and the Sunshine Maritime Development Corporation are pointing fingers at each other on who should be accountable for the oil spill in Guimaras, even as both should be bearing responsibility – having entered into a contract. The government, for its part, is clueless on what to do to address the effects of the disaster. Meanwhile, the people of Guimaras, an island province in mid-Philippines, are left to fend for themselves as they bear the brunt of cleaning up all the mess – while at the same time worrying about probable loss of their livelihood.

Salungguhit literally means to underline; figuratively, to underscore or highlight.
