Martial law survivors fear that the appointment of Geraldine Faith Econg could reverse hard-won gains in the anti-martial law struggle.
On Oct. 4, the Sandiganbayan Second Division granted a motion by Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his mother – in behalf of the Marcos Sr. estate – to dismiss an ill-gotten wealth civil case against them. Supposedly, because of the “inordinate delay” in its prosecution, justice was being done to them.
“They [Marcoses] are now using stolen wealth to return to power,” Reyes said in Filipino. “Do not expect Marcos Jr. to change the rotten system, he will exploit this system to return to power just as his father did.”
