ELECTION WATCH / BREAKING NEWS
May 14, 2007

Voters of five neighboring haciendas in the upland Barangay Tanza, EB Magalona town in the province of Negros Occidental were roused from their sleep by 10 armed men believed to be members of the RPA-ABB (Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade) just before the precincts opened on Election Day, a report from RMN Agong Radio Network said.

The armed men forcibly put indelible ink on the fingers of 35 voters known to be supporters of EB Magalona incumbent mayor and opposition bet Alfonso Gamboa.

In an interview with Gamboa, he said before the armed men left, they supposedly told the voters: “Hindi na kayo boboto, wala tayong mayor” (You will not be able to vote, we don’t have a mayor). (Bulatlat.com)
